YR-1205 Farragut State Park Walk

This scenic trail begins and ends at Park Headquarters. At the Boy Scout trail, you will veer right and follow the meadow trail into heavily forested areas. This trail will eventually take you to the scenic Shoreline Trail and the Bernard Peak viewpoint. From there you will follow the Shoreline Trail until you reach the Beaver Bay swimming area and the halfway point. The return will be up the Power Line Trail to the Squirrel Cache Shelter. From there you will take the South and North Lynx ski trails back to Park Headquarters. There are short uphill and downhill sections, and varying natural terrain. It is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers. Walking sticks would be helpful.

Water and restrooms are available at Park Headquarters and Beaver Bay Swimming Area (when open). It is advisable to carry water during hot weather.

Pets are allowed on Park trails but must be kept leashed at all times. If they poop, you must scoop!

This is a credit only walk. "B" awards and hat pins from previous walks are available.

Registration and Fees

There is no pre-registration for this event.

• If you do not have an Idaho State Parks annual pass, your must pay a Park vehicle fee of US$4.00 to the Park attendant at the Park entrance or front desk. Make Park fee checks payable to Farragut State Park.
• Registration materials and start box are located in the oak file cabinet opposite the Park Headquarters entry. Follow the instructions in the registration book and fill out the event registration log.
• Take a trail map/instruction sheet and fill out the information at the top.
• When you are finished with the walk place the map and any pertinent walk fees in and envelope and drop it in the slot on the top of the file cabinet. Make walk checks payable to Selkirk Striders Volkssport Club.

• Anyone may participate. Free walkers are welcome but all walkers must register and turn in a start card (route map) upon finishing the event. An adult must accompany children under the age of 12.

Farragut State Park is located midway between Coeur d'Alene and Sandpoint on US-95. From I-90 take the US-95 exit at Coeur d'Alene towards Canada/Sandpoint. Travel north for 20 miles to Athol and turn right onto Highway 54 at the traffic signal (there will be a sign indicating Farragut State Park). The Park Headquarters is located 4 miles east.

• Stay on the trails and don't cut switchbacks or create new trails.
• Walk on the center of the trail to protect the uphill slope and outside berm.
• Be considerate of other trail users.
• Littering is not permitted. Litter can kill wildlife.
• Avoid disturbing wildlife; observe from a distance.
• Your fees help maintain the trail system.
